LOUISVILLE, Ky. – October 10, 2018 – Kentucky Trailer, a leading manufacturer of custom trailers, truck bodies, and mobilized workplace solutions, today announced the opening of a new facility in Wixom, Michigan.
The facility combines operations that were previously housed in two separate buildings. The consolidation not only increases the company’s square footage in Michigan, but also increases manufacturing capacity and improves efficiencies in fabrication and finishing.
Prior to moving to the Wixom facility, turnkey vehicle transport trailers, custom trailer products, and specialty vehicles were built at a 69,000-square-foot facility in New Hudson, Michigan. The products then were sent to a separate 34,000-square-foot facility in Walled Lake, Michigan for interior finishing. The new Wixom manufacturing plant combines structural fabrication and interior finishing operations in one 132,000-square-foot location.
“We are pleased to be able to bring our Michigan operations under one roof,” said Kentucky Trailer President and CEO Gary Smith. “Not only will we save time and create efficiencies, we will also be able to share resources. Ultimately, what this means is that we’ll be able to better serve our customers’ needs.”
One example of new efficiencies and shared resources is in parts fabrication. Parts teams from both buildings have been relocated to the Wixom facility, so that they can share access to state-of-the-art equipment, supporting a near limitless ability to build high-quality custom parts for both vehicle transport trailers and custom builds in-house.
The facility also features an enormous paint booth that allows technicians to paint full double expandable trailers with the walls open.
